Job summary

Prometheus Energetics is seeking an experienced Ballistician and Igniter Design Engineer to manage interior ballistics modeling, grain geometry optimization, and ignition system architecture for solid rocket motors. The role reports to the Director of Engineering and covers the full ballistic lifecycle from sizing to static fire correlation and production support.

The ideal candidate has 4–10+ years in propulsion, expertise in 2D/3D grain design, igniter hardware, and experience with NASA CEA

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field.
• Experience: 4–6 years solid rocket motor interior ballistics or grain design; 7–10+ years for senior role.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead interior ballistics analysis and performance prediction across 1D/2D/3D profiles.
• Design and optimize 3D propellant grain geometries to meet constraints.
• Model ignition transients and design SRM ignition systems.
• Collaborate with chemists and processing teams on burn rate targets and criteria.
• Maintain ballistic databases and support LAT/qualification tests.
• Present findings at program milestones and mentor junior staff.
