Job summary

LabXchange seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join a small, highly collaborative engineering team in New Bedford, MA. You will own major features across the stack, with emphasis on backend systems, architecture, and production environments, mentoring peers and guiding engineering standards.

You will report to the CTO and collaborate with engineering, product, and operations to design, build, and operate scalable services on AWS, containerized environments, and CI/CD pipelines, while upholding

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Backend/API development experience and data-driven systems.
• Experience with Node.js or similar server-side frameworks.
• Relational DBs with PostgreSQL including migrations and performance.
• AWS or comparable cloud environment experience.
• Docker or containerized environments.
• React or another modern frontend framework.
• Strong understanding of architecture, APIs, async processing, and production failures.
• Experience with CI/CD and Git-based workflows.
• Observability via logs/metrics and production troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Own major features and subsystems from design through deployment and support.
• Design and maintain backend services, APIs, databases, and asynchronous processes.
• Propose architectural approaches and lead implementations aligned with product and security needs.
• Contribute to production environment with AWS, containers, CI/CD, and operations.
• Ensure reliability, observability, data migrations, and protection of sensitive information.
• Review code and designs, mentoring engineers and guiding best practices.
• Drive improvements in architecture, testing, security, and deployment workflows.
• Identify technical debt and opportunities to simplify existing systems.
