Job summary

LabXchange is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a small, highly collaborative team in New Bedford, MA. You will own major backend features, design APIs, and drive production-ready systems across the stack.

You will mentor engineers, contribute to architecture decisions, and help elevate engineering practices while solving challenging problems in a production environment using modern tools and cloud services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent production software work.
• Strong experience in backend applications, APIs, integrations, and data-driven systems.
• Experience with Node.js or similar server-side frameworks.
• Experience with PostgreSQL including data modeling, migrations, and performance considerations.
• Experience deploying and operating applications in AWS or comparable cloud environments.
• Experience with Docker or containerized environments.
• Frontend familiarity with React or another modern framework.
• Solid knowledge of software architecture, API design, and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Own major features and subsystems from design through implementation and production support.
• Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and data interactions.
• Evaluate architectures with the CTO and lead implementation under changing requirements.
• Contribute to production environments including AWS infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
• Design for reliable operation, observability, data migrations, and security.
• Review code and designs; mentor junior engineers and drive best practices.
• Elevate engineering standards around architecture, testing, and deployment.
• Identify technical debt and opportunities to simplify existing systems.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
