Job summary

SAIVA AI, based in Silicon Valley, is seeking a Senior Backend Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate the backend services powering our healthcare applications. You will own APIs, databases, and AWS runtime, collaborating with Data, UI, and Mobile teams while ensuring reliability and security.

The role focuses on building scalable, secure Python services, distributed data models, and well-defined API contracts, with production ownership and high-impact architectural decisions throughout

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing, building, operating backend or platform systems in production.
• 3+ years Python development with FastAPI in production.
• Strong system-design experience with distributed architectures and APIs.
• Experience operating AWS production workloads and services (ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3, SQS, CloudWatch).
• Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL or SQL Server; data modeling and performance optimization.
• Experience designing secure RESTful APIs, asynchronous workflows, and service integrations.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, testing, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Demonstrated ownership from design through production support; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and operate scalable Python backend services and platform capabilities.
• Develop secure, versioned APIs for internal, web, mobile, and partner apps.
• Contribute to system design decisions on service boundaries, data models, and integration patterns.
• Design for scalability, fault tolerance, idempotency, and recovery.
• Build and operate AWS services; optimize PostgreSQL performance and migrations.
• Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD, monitoring, and production support.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, security, and cost efficiency.
• Lead root-cause analysis of incidents and implement preventive improvements.
• Apply HIPAA, SOC 2 and privacy requirements in platform design.
• Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate development and documentation.
