Job summary

Dexian is seeking an experienced backend engineer in Dallas to design and build scalable integration services. You will develop REST APIs and backend components using Java/Spring Boot within an event-driven architecture, focusing on high availability and low latency.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend integration services for POS and back-office modernization.
• Develop and integrate REST APIs and backend services using Java/Spring Boot.
• Work within event-driven, message-based architecture for reliable integrations.
• Aim for high availability, scalability, and low latency distributed services.
• Develop integrations for labor management systems as a first project.
• Implement testing, retries, timeouts, and observability.
• Collaborate with engineering and business teams to translate requirements.

Job description

Duration: FTE

Salary Range: $135,000 - $145,000 base salary + 10% bonus

Role Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend integration services supporting POS and back-office modernization.
• Develop and integrate REST APIs and backend services using Java/Spring Boot.
• Work within an event-driven and message-based architecture to build reliable, scalable integrations.
• Design distributed services with a focus on high availability, scalability, and low latency.
• Build integrations supporting the company’s labor management systems as an initial project.
• Develop resilient service-to-service integrations using appropriate error handling, retries, timeouts, and monitoring.
• Implement observability, logging, monitoring, and production reliability practices.
• Establish and maintain automated testing and release quality standards.
• Collaborate with engineering and business teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Contribute to AI/GenAI initiatives, including opportunities to develop or integrate AI agents.
• Participate in technical design, code reviews, troubleshooting, and production support.
• Work effectively within a small, highly collaborative engineering team.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Tools & Technical Experience

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with a strong backend focus.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience developing REST APIs and backend integrations.
• Hands‑on experience working within an event‑driven or message‑based architecture.
• Strong experience with AWS cloud services.
• Experience designing and developing distributed systems.
• Experience with messaging/event technologies such as Kafka, AWS SNS/SQS, EventBridge, or similar platforms.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release quality controls.
• Experience with application observability, monitoring, logging, and production reliability.
• Understanding of resilient service‑to‑service communication, including timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, and exception handling.
• Experience working with AI/GenAI technologies is preferred.
• Experience developing or integrating AI agents is a plus.
• Full-stack experience is not required; strong backend/API expertise is the priority.
• Experience in restaurant POS, retail, or hospitality technology is a plus but not required.
