Job summary

Western Governors University is seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend-Focused Full Stack Software Engineer to design, build, and scale modern applications and distributed systems. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in computer science or software engineering.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong backend development with Java and Python.
• Experience building scalable APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Experience with Spring Boot, FastAPI, Flask, Django or similar frameworks.
• Solid understanding of full-stack architecture and frontend integration patterns.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases; cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Strong CI/CD, containerization, and DevOps practices; Docker and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java and Python.
• Lead backend architecture decisions focused on scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices supporting web and mobile apps.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers (Angular/Flutter) for end-to-end solutions.
• Optimize DB performance and system integrations; ensure application reliability.
• Implement cloud-native solutions and drive infrastructure automation.
• Promote testing, CI/CD, observability, and secure software practices.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and architectural guidance.
• Troubleshoot production issues across the stack; contribute to modernization initiatives.
