Job summary

Western Governors University is seeking a talented Software Engineer II to join the Web Platform Team in Salt Lake City. You will help build scalable, accessible Angular web experiences and maintain shared libraries, tooling, and deployment capabilities that power WGU’s web applications.

You’ll collaborate with architects, DevOps, and platform engineers to enhance developer experience and establish engineering standards while supporting a mission‑driven organization focused on student success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Angular and TypeScript.
• Experience building and maintaining reusable component libraries, shared services, or front‑end frameworks.
• Strong understanding of modern JavaScript/TypeScript development practices.
• Experience with HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, and responsive web design.
• Experience working with Git‑based source control systems and collaborative development workflows.
• Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud‑native development and deployment practices.
• Understanding of software architecture principles, modular design, and scalable application development.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem‑solving skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain shared front‑end libraries, tooling, and platform services used across multiple engineering teams.
• Build and support enterprise‑scale Angular applications and reusable UI components.
• Contribute to the architecture and maintenance of Nx monorepos and shared codebases.
• Improve developer experience through automation, tooling, documentation, and engineering best practices.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and related DevOps tooling.
• Support deployment and release processes using Octopus Deploy and ArgoCD.
• Establish and promote front‑end standards for code quality, testing, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with application teams to identify platform needs and reduce development friction.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and architecture discussions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving build systems, deployment pipelines, development tooling, and platform infrastructure.
• Monitor platform health and continuously improve reliability, scalability, and developer productivity.
