Fastly is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to design and ship public-facing APIs in Go. You’ll work across product and security teams to build scalable backend systems, participate in on-call rotations, and mentor others while contributing to a growing developer ecosystem.

The role requires 5+ years of Go experience, 3+ years with external APIs, and a strong focus on reliability, performance, and security.

Qualifications

5+ years shipping production Go as primary language.
3+ years working on public APIs with external consumers.
Experience designing reliable, large-scale backend systems.
Experience with RESTful API design and OpenAPI concepts.
Ability to mentor engineers and lead design reviews.

Responsibilities

Design, ship, and own public-facing APIs and backend services in Go – from proposal to production rollout and on-call support.
Use AI coding agents as part of your daily workflow.
Partner with frontend engineers, product managers, and security researchers to ship the customer experience end-to-end.
Turn ambiguous problems into well-defined technical plans for the team to execute.
Author design and architectural documents to drive alignment across teams.
Collaborate with platform teams to understand needs and deliver impactful solutions.
Consider stability, performance, and scalability in your designs and guidance to the team.
Mentor and grow other engineers through code reviews and pairing.
Participate in an on-call rotation.
