Job summary

Lighthouse is seeking a senior or staff backend engineer to own and evolve the core systems that power Lighthouse. Our backend uses Python and TypeScript, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, and serverless compute, with LLMs woven throughout.

This role focuses on making our backend faster, more reliable, and ready to scale. You will design agentic workflows, strengthen security, scale the API, and build data pipelines that connect Slack, Linear, HubSpot, Front, and other services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating production backend systems (APIs, databases, async jobs, event-driven architectures).
• Strong in Python/TypeScript with experience building scalable backend systems including PostgreSQL and async Python.
• Experience with agentic systems and LLM-powered features in AI workflows.
• Strong system design judgment on boundaries, data modeling, failure modes, observability.
• High agency for independent research and problem-solving.
• Experience with migrations, dual-writes, feature flags, legacy code removal.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve core backend systems powering Lighthouse.
• Improve backend performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Build and maintain agentic systems and LLM-powered features.
• Strengthen security with better auth and environment isolation.
• Scale the API layer and improve GraphQL structure and performance.
• Develop data pipelines and integrations with Slack, Linear, HubSpot, Front.
• Enhance document ingestion and generation pipelines for filing-ready outputs.
