Hinge, the dating app designed to be deleted, is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate cloud services powering millions of users in a hybrid NYC-based role. You’ll own significant parts of the software stack, write high-quality code, and participate in on-call duties as part of a diverse, cross‑functional team including Product, Data Science, ML, iOS, Android, and Data Engineering.

You’ll help design distributed systems with Go, RESTful APIs, and Kubernetes, while

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend/service engineering experience.
• 4+ years in cloud environments (GCP, AWS, Azure).
• Strong programming skills in Go and Python a bonus.
• Deep understanding of distributed computing concepts and cloud design patterns.
• Excellent written & verbal communication for cross-functional teams.
• Experience with Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, gRPC/Protobuf, Argo, Kafka.

Responsibilities

• Design and build RESTful APIs for mobile clients.
• Participate in backend On-Call rotation (1 week every 8–11 weeks).
• Design and build microservices that run on Kubernetes.
• Develop distributed systems in Go using cloud infrastructure and platform services.
• Own technical design, implementation, and project success.
• Collaborate across teams to promote inclusivity and cross-functional communication.
