Job summary

Affirm is hiring for a backend engineer to design, develop and scale core services in a remote-first environment across the United States. You will own significant features, write high-quality code, and collaborate with product, design and analytics to balance performance and reliability.

The role requires 4+ years of backend experience with Python or Kotlin, plus familiarity with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes. Remote work is supported nationwide with occasional office presence as needed.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature with simple, extensible design.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics across the development lifecycle.
