Job summary

Namely is seeking a Member of Technical Staff (Backend) to lead API and service design for a banking/compliance platform. You will own backend systems, build scalable services in Rust and Python, and ensure secure, auditable deployments across a regulated fintech stack in a fast-moving team.

The role sits in Engineering with on-site work in New York City and San Francisco, offering equity with a strong compensation package.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, building, and operating backend systems under real load.
• Shipped and operated an API used by other teams or external developers.
• Privacy, security, and trust must appear in your first design sketch.
• Able to reason about tradeoffs and chase failure modes others consider unlikely.
• Owns a service in production and can be paged for it.

Responsibilities

• API and service design. Rust APIs powering verification and checks.
• Own a product area end-to-end from data model to deployment.
• Ensure correctness, reliability, and security posture of services.
• Contribute to agent-shaped backend work in the Footprint platform.
