Job summary

Sprezzatura is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services powering VA.gov platforms. You will build secure REST APIs, reusable services, and participate in platform modernization with a focus on reliability and security.

The role requires strong Ruby on Rails experience, PostgreSQL, and familiarity with distributed systems. This is a remote position within the United States, with standard business hours and opportunity to impact government digital

Qualifications

• Experience designing RESTful APIs in Ruby on Rails.
• Strong relational database experience (PostgreSQL).
• Experience with Git and GitHub workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services with Ruby on Rails.
• Build secure, scalable REST APIs for Platform and product teams.
• Develop reusable services and backend capabilities.
• Write clean, tested code and participate in reviews.
• Enhance architecture for scalability and reliability.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Troubleshoot production issues and monitor performance.
