Rate Companies in the United States is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our IT team and help drive the platform powering our mortgage technology. You will work on backend systems, cloud integrations, and high-throughput services to support a remote-first workforce.

The role emphasizes building reliable, scalable software with a focus on AWS, Node.js, GraphQL, and API integrations, collaborating across product, design, and engineering teams to deliver value to customers.

Qualifications

• BS or equivalent in Computer Science/Info Systems or related field.
• 5+ years of professional programming experience.
• 3+ years of AWS and cloud services including serverless.
• Experience with Node.js, GraphQL, REST APIs, and database technologies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and modern deployment pipelines.
• Strong testing practices with JavaScript (Jest).
• Experience with ETL and API integrations and data synchronization.
• Comfort with monorepos (Lerna/Yarn workspaces).
• Knowledge of React or similar client-side frameworks is a plus.
• Mortgage/finance industry knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, maintainable backend code as part of a small Scrum team.
• Build and operate robust integrations between systems of record.
• Own the software domain with a strong sense of ownership.
• Address production issues quickly with added logging and diagnostics.
• Onboard quickly to an existing codebase and ask questions early.
• Communicate requirements and data expectations with stakeholders.
• Help maintain best practices, including testing, reviews, and deployments.
