Job summary

Camunda is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Core / API & Process Automation team. You will work on Camunda 8’s event-sourced, distributed workflow engine that powers thousands of customers and millions of people globally.

You will squeeze performance from hot paths, design maintainability and versioning, and ensure data integrity while supporting AI agent integration with the engine. You’ll lead ambiguity, mentor teammates, and uphold a high quality bar.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering with distributed/event-driven systems.
• Strong API design with backward-compatible changes.
• Experience with event sourcing and replay semantics.
• Ability to lead ambiguity and mentor others.
• Excellent communication and product sense; remote collaboration.
• Nice-to-have: workflow automation / process orchestration experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve the event-sourced engine and its API (command/event, CQRS).
• Lead hard, ambiguous problems end-to-end from design to delivery.
• Ship high-impact engine features quickly with high quality.
• Ensure resiliency, schema evolution, and observability.
• Profile and optimize data-access patterns across stores; lead incidents.
