Job summary

Camunda, the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, is hiring a Backend Software Engineer for the Data Layer team. You will build the storage and query layer supporting Camunda 8’s process data across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, ensuring speed, correctness, and scale.

You will partner with Product, design, QA, and Support to deliver and evolve data storage and retrieval capabilities, while tackling challenging projects like data retention and external data

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Proficient with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MSSQL, or Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Ability to break down requirements into concrete tasks and designs.
• Experience diagnosing slow queries and index usage.
• Strong written and verbal communication in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend data-layer services for Camunda 8, spanning relational DBs and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Own end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives with Product Management and seniors.
• Evolve how process data is stored, retained, and exposed to customers.
• Improve secondary storage to scale with usage, and build tooling for production ops.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotas with Support and SRE.
