Picnic is hiring a Backend Engineer in New York to architect and scale real-time logistics and operations platforms. You will work across backend services powering web and mobile surfaces, partnering with frontend, mobile, product, and operations teams to shape backend design and scale.

You will write high-quality Java and Go, lead cross-team initiatives, own architecture, and drive data-store and API layer implementations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience required.
• Strong experience architecting and delivering systems in ambiguous environments.
• Proven ability to lead cross-team initiatives and drive architectural alignment.
• Deep understanding of backend system design, APIs, data stores, and distributed systems.
• Experience collaborating with frontend, mobile, product, data, and business partners.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, well-tested code in Java and Go.
• Lead backend initiatives across domains like routing optimization, automation, scalability, and reliability.
• Own backend architecture and drive solutions to ambiguous, high-impact problems.
• Drive development and scaling of core data stores and API layers as the business grows.
• Establish and promote best practices for building, testing, monitoring, and operating large-scale systems.
• Translate technical vision into quarterly roadmaps in collaboration with product and engineering leadership.
• Mentor and uplevel engineers through technical leadership and reviews.
