Picnic is seeking a Backend Engineer to architect and scale its real-time logistics and operations platforms. This role partners with frontend, mobile, product, and operations teams to shape backend systems that power real-world operations.

You will write high-quality Java and Go code, lead cross-team initiatives, and own backend design from data stores to APIs, ensuring reliability and scalability as the business grows. This position is onsite in New York.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience architecting systems in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• Ability to lead complex, cross-team initiatives and drive alignment.
• Deep understanding of backend design, APIs, data stores, and distributed systems.
• Collaborates closely with frontend, mobile, product, data, and business partners.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, well-tested code in Java and Go, maintaining engineering excellence.
• Lead and influence large backend initiatives across domains like routing, automation, scalability, and reliability.
• Own backend architecture and drive solutions to high-impact problems.
• Scale core data stores and API layers as the business grows.
• Establish best practices for building, testing, monitoring, and operating large-scale systems.
• Translate technical vision into quarterly roadmaps with product and engineering leadership.
• Mentor and uplift engineers through technical leadership and hands-on collaboration.
