Picnic is hiring a Backend Engineer to architect and scale real-time logistics and operations platforms. You will work across backend services powering web and mobile, partnering with frontend, product, and operations to shape backend systems.

You will write high-quality code in Java and Go, own architecture, and drive scalable, reliable systems. This role is based in New York and offers a strong compensation package and equity potential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong experience architecting and delivering systems in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• Proven ability to lead complex, cross-team initiatives and drive architectural alignment.
• Deep understanding of backend system design, APIs, data stores, and distributed systems.
• Experience collaborating with frontend, mobile, product, data, and business partners.
• Hands-on engineer with high bar for code quality, reliability, and operability.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, well-tested code in Java and Go.
• Lead and influence backend initiatives across domains like routing, automation, scalability, and reliability.
• Own backend architecture and drive solutions to ambiguous, high-impact problems.
• Develop and scale core data stores and API layers as the business grows.
• Establish and promote best practices for building, testing, monitoring, and operating large-scale systems.
• Translate technical vision into quarterly roadmaps with product and engineering leadership.
• Mentor and up-level engineers through reviews and collaboration.
