Scribe is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Core Engineering Team. You will own backend features across document viewing, editing, embeds, and exports, built in Django, and collaborating with product, design, and frontend to deliver scalable experiences.

You will optimize performance, contribute to architectural decisions, and uphold rigorous testing and reliability standards. This role offers equity and comprehensive benefits in a fast-growing startup environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building backend applications at high scale and availability.
• Extensive experience with Python.
• Ability to optimize endpoint performance and database queries.
• Strong advocate for automated testing.
• Experience with engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship backend features in the Django monolith for core document workflows and new projects.
• Improve performance and reliability by optimizing queries, endpoints, and caching layers.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver scalable experiences.
• Contribute to technical discussions and drive architectural improvements.
• Uphold engineering practices through code reviews, tests, and observability.
