Job summary

The Better Money Company in New York City is building a high-assurance backend platform for stablecoins, owning mint/burn, reserve accounting, reconciliation, and settlement pipelines, with security-first APIs.

You will integrate with banks, custody providers, issuers, and blockchains, design robust monitoring, and contribute to payments APIs and admin surfaces while improving robustness of the core product.

Qualifications

• 5–12 years of production backend engineering experience with systems you designed, shipped and operated.
• Stack: TypeScript on Node.js, PostgreSQL, and GCP.
• Experience with high-value transactional systems: payments, banking integrations, fintech infrastructure, or stablecoin/crypto infra.
• Solid grasp of distributed systems: consistency, eventing, idempotency, retries, reconciliation, observability.
• Judgment for integrating with unreliable external systems: banks, payment rails, custody providers, issuers.
• Experience designing secure APIs, handling secrets, and running infrastructure runbooks.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business/compliance requirements into technical tradeoffs and communicate them.
• Willingness to work in person in New York City five days a week; relocation support available.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core backend services behind mint/burn flows, reserve accounting, reconciliation, and settlement pipelines.
• Integrate with banks, custody providers, stablecoin issuers, blockchains, and partner APIs with safe money-movement guarantees.
• Build durable reconciliation and audit trails to verify state and real value.
• Design secure API surfaces and own monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response.
• Contribute to payments API and internal/admin surfaces bridging backend ownership with workflows.
• Identify and pursue robustness improvements to the core product beyond explicit tickets.
