Dahl Consulting is seeking a Development Engineer for a remote, 6‑month contract focusing on backend services and distributed systems. The role emphasizes production-grade code, microservices, and event-driven architectures in AWS with Docker/Kubernetes deployment.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of backend experience in Java or Kotlin, strong knowledge of Spring Boot, and hands-on work with Kafka, SQL/NoSQL databases, and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• 7+ years backend software engineering experience building and supporting production systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin, with hands-on experience using Spring Boot.
• Experience designing, developing, and scaling microservices and REST APIs.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or a similar event-streaming platform, including publishing, consuming, and troubleshooting.
• Strong database experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and/or NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB or MongoDB.
• Experience deploying and operating services in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience developing or working with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.
• Hands-on experience using GitHub for source control, pull requests, code review, and branch management.
• Production support experience, including monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with close attention to detail.
• Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and adapt within an established technical architecture.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsabilités

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java or Kotlin.
• Build and support microservices and REST APIs within distributed systems environments.
• Develop and maintain event-driven applications using Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
• Work with relational and/or NoSQL databases to support application functionality and performance.
• Deploy and operate services in cloud-based environments.
• Support production systems through monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and incident response.
• Work with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines to support application deployment and delivery.
• Use GitHub for source control, pull requests, code reviews, and branch management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams in an Agile development environment.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, blockers, and delivery tradeoffs proactively.
• Contribute to front-end development and user experience implementation when needed.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
