Job summary

Dahl Consulting in Brooklyn Park, MN is seeking a Development Engineer to join as a contract role focused on backend services, distributed systems, and microservices. You will work with Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot, Kafka, and cloud deployments, with opportunities to touch front-end tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of backend experience, strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, and hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Proficient in Java or Kotlin with Spring Boot.
• Experience building microservices and REST APIs.
• Hands-on with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB).
• Cloud deployment (AWS) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Jenkins; PR reviews on GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services.
• Build and support microservices and REST APIs in distributed systems.
• Develop event-driven apps using Kafka and related tech.
• Work with SQL/NoSQL databases to support features and performance.
• Deploy and operate services in cloud environments and monitor production systems.
• Collaborate with teams in Agile sprints and contribute to front-end as needed.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to peers.
