Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Kotlin) to design, build, and support scalable backend platforms and APIs powering critical business applications. Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with Java and/or Kotlin.
• Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, and microservices.
• Strong proficiency with Spring Boot and modern backend practices.
• Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, authentication, and API security controls.
• Experience with AWS or GCP cloud platforms.
• Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
• Hands-on testing with JUnit, Mockito, or similar frameworks.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and API integrations.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and work with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices using Java and/or Kotlin.
• Serve as a technical consultant on API capabilities and integration best practices.
• Collaborate with partner teams to onboard and resolve integration challenges (REST, GraphQL, OAuth).
• Translate business and technical requirements into secure scalable solutions.
• Create and maintain technical docs, guides, and sample apps for developers and partners.
• Enhance performance, reliability, monitoring, and observability in cloud-native environments.
• Implement and support automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment processes.
• Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and operational standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues within distributed systems and microservice architectures.
• Drive engineering excellence and operational efficiency.
