Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Kotlin) to design and support scalable backend platforms and APIs powering critical business applications. You will collaborate with engineering, product, security, and partner teams to deliver secure, cloud-native solutions and act as a technical advisor for integration initiatives.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong Java and/or Kotlin development.
• Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, and microservices.
• Strong proficiency with Spring Boot and modern backend practices.
• Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, authentication, authorization, and API security.
• Experience with AWS or GCP and container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes).
• CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development experience.
• Hands-on testing with JUnit/Mockito or similar tools.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices using Java and/or Kotlin.
• Serve as a technical consultant on API capabilities and integration best practices.
• Collaborate with partner teams to onboard and resolve integration challenges with REST/GraphQL and OAuth.
• Translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable solutions.
• Create technical docs, integration guides, and sample applications for developers and partners.
• Enhance performance, reliability, monitoring, and observability in cloud-native environments.
• Implement automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment processes.
• Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and operational standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues in distributed systems and drive engineering excellence.
