Job summary

refurbed, a remote-first marketplace, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and implement scalable backend services that power the platform. You will work within a cross-functional squad alongside engineers, product managers, designers, and business colleagues to deliver robust, reliable, and high‑performance solutions for customers and sellers.

Our stack includes Go, gRPC, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform, with Vue.js on the frontend.

Qualifications

• 7+ years experience designing and building scalable backend services in a modern production environment.
• Strong proficiency in Go and deep understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.
• Well-versed in SQL and relational database design.
• General knowledge of the frontend world and ability to perform basic tasks in frontend apps.
• Self-starter with ownership, initiative and quick learning of complex systems.
• Open-minded, clear, direct and respectful communication.
• Value humility, low-ego, and collaborative culture.
• Excellent English skills; based in a European time zone.
• Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain core APIs and backend services.
• Own operations and monitoring of production systems.
• Integrate third-party systems and APIs into the platform.
• Own design and implementation of new features and services.
• Identify best practices and create standards for the engineering department.
• Document solutions with documentation, diagrams, code comments, and clear code.
• Mentor junior engineers and onboard new joiners.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Proactively share insights and results in relevant meetings.
• Occasionally propagate backend changes to frontend.
