Job summary

LaunchDarkly is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Experimentation team. You will design, build, and operate scalable backend services powering the product, tackling data-intensive problems with a focus on reliability and observability.

You will own components end-to-end, collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineers, and help drive architectural decisions that impact customers at scale.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and delivering scalable, observable systems that are reliable and maintainable.
• Strong programming experience in Go or a comparable backend language; Go is used by the team.
• Experience with distributed systems, data pipelines, APIs, or data-intensive services.
• Familiarity with analytical/warehouse data stores (e.g., Postgres, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
• Experience diagnosing production issues and improving reliability via metrics, logs, and tracing.
• Experience with cloud environments and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
• Ability to take ambiguous problems from discovery to design, implement, launch, and operate.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate scalable backend services and APIs for the Experimentation product.
• Own backend components through their lifecycle: discovery, design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and improvement.
• Build and evolve systems for experiment setup, data ingestion, metric computation, results processing, and presentation.
• Contribute to architectural decisions with trade-offs on scalability, reliability, performance, and cost.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists, and engineers to translate needs into technical solutions.
• Coordinate with Data Platform, Warehouse Integrations, SDK, and other teams on data flows and services.
• Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes.
• Improve observability, testing, and deployment safety across the stack.
• Participate in on-call rotations and support production systems in a you-build-it-you-run-it culture.
• Mentor teammates through code reviews, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
