Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to own backend systems at scale, leveraging Python or Kotlin, with a strong focus on reliability and extensibility. You will work on money movement and data integration, collaborating across product, analytics, and other engineering teams to build scalable systems.

The role requires 4+ years of backend experience, hands-on work with distributed architectures on AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes, and excellent communication skills for our global engineering team.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Define a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Ability to write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
• Show ownership of growth by seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication to collaborate with a global engineering team.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ideate and balance risks and trade-offs.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts; monitor metrics and assist on-call efforts.
• Set and improve code review and design standards and advocate them beyond the team.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and mentoring teammates.
