Job summary

Upstart, a digital-first fintech company, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to own backend services, data pipelines, and reporting infrastructure that support capital partners across lending products. You will ensure accurate, timely data and scalable platform growth.

You will collaborate with Capital Markets, Finance, and Data teams to deliver reliable solutions, mentor peers, and reduce operational burden while operating in a regulated fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and 4+ years building backend systems.
• Experience with at least one modern backend stack and SQL databases.
• Hands-on experience with data pipelines or analytical data stores.
• Experience owning systems end-to-end, from design to on-call support.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve backend services, data models, and reporting APIs for partner-facing reporting.
• Build and maintain data pipelines and reporting systems delivering loan/portfolio data under SLAs.
• Improve reliability and observability; automate processes and reduce incidents.
• Lead design and implementation of cross-product platform capabilities, including unified APIs.
• Collaborate with Capital Markets, Finance, and Data teams to define requirements and troubleshoot production issues.
• Identify inefficiencies in legacy systems and drive platform-level improvements.
• Mentor engineers on data modeling, distributed systems design, and production operations.
