Job summary

Papa is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer for Papa Community in San Francisco, CA. You will join a founding engineering team, shape the platform architecture, and own critical healthcare workflows from design to deployment.

Work with Staff Backend Engineers and the GM, balancing speed with scalable, compliant systems. Hybrid in-office 2–3 days/week, with enterprise-grade reliability and impact on patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails or Python.
• 1+ years of hands-on experience with Elixir.
• Experience building and shipping high quality work and achieving high reliability.
• Experience improving quality through thoughtful code reviews, appropriate testing, proper rollout, and monitoring.
• Passionate about improving healthcare access and outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Build out Papa Community's platform, the operational backbone for the care team.
• Strengthen the revenue cycle management pipeline and claims data workflows.
• Extend platform and tooling investments, including transactional email and support tooling.
• Enable operational intelligence and automation with real-time patient data and dashboards.
• Contribute to critical technical decisions and roadmap with senior engineers.
• Support engineering practices, code standards, testing, deployment, and documentation.
