Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a senior backend-focused Software Engineer to design, build, and operate distributed backend systems for our recommendations and AI workflows. You will own infra on AWS and Kubernetes, improve reliability, and reduce single points of failure while mentoring others and collaborating with product teams.

Requirements include 5+ years in production backend, strong Python and/or TypeScript, MongoDB experience, and proficiency with AWS, containers, CI/CD, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
• Business-level English proficiency to read, write and speak.
• 5+ years building and operating backend systems in production.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems: concurrency, queues/streams, design for failure.
• Strong Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js skills; MongoDB experience.
• Hands-on with AWS, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability.
• Value testing and documentation; communicate trade-offs clearly.
• Willing to mentor junior engineers and handle ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the distributed backend systems behind our recommendations pipeline and AI workflow engine.
• Own and harden infra on AWS and Kubernetes to improve reliability and scalability.
• Increase resilience by reducing single points of failure and sharing on-call ownership.
• Design clean service boundaries and optimize MongoDB data models and queries.
• Leverage AI tooling to deploy reliable, non-deterministic components.
• Collaborate with product engineers, PMs, and designers to ship end-to-end features with quality docs.
• Mentor engineers across the team on backend and reliability practices.
