Job summary

Camunda is seeking a Backend Senior Software Engineer on the Data Layer team to design and evolve the storage and query layer for Camunda 8's process data, spanning relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch. You will ensure fast, accurate, and scalable data access across monitoring and agent‑driven automation features.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of backend engineering experience with production data stores.
• Deep experience with relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Experience leading medium‑to‑large engineering initiatives end‑to‑end.
• Strong ability to debug slow queries and indexing issues in production.
• Excellent remote collaboration and communication in cross‑functional teams.
• Familiarity with data pipelines and scalable data layer design.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data-layer backend services across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Own end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives with cross‑functional teams.
• Evolve processing, retention, and exposure of process data for customers.
• Improve secondary storage performance and develop tooling for production operations.
• Participate in L3 support and on‑call rotations with SRE.
