Job summary

Alchemy is hiring a backend data systems engineer to transform blockchain activity into developer-friendly data products. You will own ingestion, indexing, storage, and API-serving systems, ensuring data correctness, freshness, and fast query performance.

You will collaborate with Product and customer teams to ship improvements and measure impact on reliability, performance, and cost, while building observable, scalable data services for a growing ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to design, ship, and operate production backend or distributed data systems.
• Strong programming skills in a production backend language, plus databases, indexing, and query performance.
• Experience with consistency, partitioning, asynchronous processing, and failure recovery.
• Ability to diagnose production problems and implement improvements beyond a quick fix.
• Sound API design judgement, including pagination, error handling, and data contracts.
• Clear communication and the ability to translate customer problems into engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate blockchain ingestion, indexing, storage, and API-serving systems.
• Handle reorganizations, retries, duplicate events, and historical backfills without data loss.
• Improve query performance and data freshness; make them observable to the team and customers.
• Extend API capabilities and chain coverage with tests for data semantics.
• Develop streaming and event-delivery with ordering, replay, and failure recovery guarantees.
• Reduce storage and processing costs through architectural and query execution changes.
• Participate in production support and incident response with monitoring and safe rollouts.
