Job summary

Roblox Corporation is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Marketplace Foundation to design and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems that support a billions-strong economy of virtual items.

You will build and operate platforms for the Avatar Marketplace, ensuring low latency, high throughput, and strong reliability while collaborating with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, and research.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development experience, focused on distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of CAP theorem, consistency models, concurrency control, fault tolerance, and consensus algorithms (Paxos, Raft, PBFT).
• Proficiency in one or more systems programming languages (C#, Go, Rust, Java, C++, or Python).
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm).
• Experience with big data tech and distributed databases (Kafka, Cassandra, MongoDB).
• Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools (Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus, ELK).
• Experience defining technical vision and providing leadership.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems including microservices and cloud-based solutions.
• Implement high-quality, well-tested code.
• Develop backend systems to ensure seamless operation of services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex distributed system issues.
• Optimize performance, reduce latency, maximize throughput.
• Collaborate with product managers, researchers, and other engineering teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Advocate for best practices across the software lifecycle.
