Job summary

Twelve Labs builds multimodal AI that understands video the way people do. We're seeking a senior backend engineer to own the platform surfaces that bring our video-understanding capabilities to developers and AI agents.

You’ll design APIs, the authentication/authorization substrate, and multi-tenancy to production-grade, enterprise-ready surfaces. This is hybrid, based in San Francisco, with travel up to 10% as required.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend experience in production services and APIs.
• Ownership of developer-facing surfaces (APIs, SDKs, integrations).
• Hands-on authn/authz in production: OAuth/OIDC, RBAC, multi-tenant isolation.
• Experience with enterprise/SaaS platform concerns: org/models, metering, rate limits.

Responsibilities

• Design and own developer- and agent-facing surfaces: public APIs and integration interfaces.
• Implement authentication/authorization substrate and RBAC scoping.
• Ship enterprise-readiness capabilities: per-API-key usage, metering, rate limiting.
• Ensure platform reliability and multi-tenant scalability with SLOs.
• Move fast with high craftsmanship and collaboration with research teams.
