Job summary

WEX is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to join the North America Mobility Platform team.

You will architect and build the next-generation Agentic AI Platform, enabling autonomous AI agents, MCP/SPI workflows, and scalable fintech services for a global user base. Part of a Platform team delivering scalable UI/API platforms to empower internal feature teams, you will design, develop, and deploy backend services with REST/gRPC, ensuring performance, reliability, and security.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in CS or Software Eng; masters preferred.
• 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong data structures, algorithms, OOD design and problem-solving.
• Experience designing internet-scale services with reliability and security.
• Excellent communication and collaborative mindset.
• Backend-focused with Java/C#, SpringBoot, REST, ODATA and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services.
• Develop public REST APIs and internal gRPC APIs for inter-service communication.
• Lead design decisions and align with senior engineers.
• Write unit, integration, and performance tests.
• Analyze bottlenecks and implement scalability improvements.
• Automate testing, monitoring, healing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with product, design, and other engineers to implement features.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and document RCA.
• Evaluate technologies and document pros/cons; maintain docs and readiness plans.
• Provide live-site support and drive cross-team projects as STO/tech lead.
