Job summary

Slope is hiring a senior backend engineer to own the backend systems that power its embedded credit, payments and underwriting. You will turn ambiguous problems into reliable production systems and drive improvements across reliability, latency, and correctness.

You will build scalable APIs, data models, and tooling for the credit risk team, working with AWS, Postgres, Snowflake, and third-party financial APIs. Remote-friendly with SF preference.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong production backend experience with Node.js/TypeScript.
• Strong SQL skills and comfort with relational databases and data pipelines.
• Experience designing APIs, services, and data models used by other teams.
• Experience in payments infrastructure and credit workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own the backend systems powering Slope’s embedded credit, payments and underwriting.
• Build reusable infrastructure for evidence gathering, decisioning, monitoring, and human-in-the-loop review.
• Create internal tools for the credit risk team to review data and understand decisions.
• Communicate technical tradeoffs, failure modes, and migration plans clearly.
• Own ambiguous projects end-to-end from problem to production.
