Job summary

Slope is seeking a senior backend engineer to own the backend systems powering embedded credit, payments, and underwriting. You will build and maintain production-grade services, APIs, data models, and workflows that scale with the business needs.

The role emphasizes reliability, latency, and clear communication of tradeoffs across teams. You will work on AWS with Postgres and Snowflake, and contribute to AI-native infrastructure, async jobs, and observability tooling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong production backend experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience with payments infrastructure and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Build and own production systems for underwriting, bank-data review, credit review workflows.
• Create reusable infrastructure for evidence gathering, decisioning, monitoring, and human-in-the-loop review.
• Build internal tools to help the credit risk team review data and decisions.
• Communicate technical assumptions, tradeoffs, failure modes, and migration plans.
• Own ambiguous projects end-to-end: define the problem, propose a path, ship production slices.
• Improve reliability, latency, and correctness of systems affecting credit decisions and UX.
