Job summary

Heartflow is seeking a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to design, build, and operate the backend services behind our AI-driven clinical platform. You will own end-to-end features, ensuring correctness, security, and scalable data pipelines for a regulated medical software environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience for the Senior level; 10+ years for Staff level with leadership.
• Strong backend programming in Python or Java; API design and data modeling.
• Hands-on experience building and operating services on AWS; SQL and NoSQL knowledge.
• Experience designing, shipping, and operating production services in distributed/microservices architecture.
• Ability to own end-to-end service reliability and performance in production.
• Familiarity with Agile development and security best practices.
• Experience with FDA-regulated medical software or regulated domains is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and operate backend services and APIs for the Heartflow clinical platform from design through production.
• Translate product and clinical requirements into technical designs; evaluate trade-offs on correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and maintain thorough code reviews within a regulated environment.
• Move imaging data and analysis results through pipelines reliably and securely at scale.
• Implement secure-by-default patterns for authentication, authorization, and data integrity.
• Own reliability and performance; instrument services, set up monitoring, and participate in on-call.
• Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and developer tooling to speed the team.
• Produce design, verification, and traceability documentation for FDA/regulatory compliance and HIPAA handling.
• Mentor engineers, onboard new members, and raise engineering standards.
• Use AI coding assistants judiciously in production work with proper verification.
