Chief is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build core services behind the Chief member experience. You will own server-side features, APIs, and AI-powered capabilities, shaping data models and integrations that ship safely and reliably.

Your decisions will influence design, tradeoffs, and quality on a small, collaborative team. You will work with Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, and Postgres, deploying thoughtful, observable systems.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend software engineering in production systems.
• Strong Node.js and TypeScript experience, with APIs design.
• Hands-on experience with LLM-powered features and AI tooling.

Responsabilités

• Design, build, and own backend services and GraphQL APIs for the member platform.
• Develop AI features with LLM integrations, retrieval, and context pipelines.
• Implement security guardrails for AI in production and monitor cost/latency.
• Ensure high availability, observability, testing, and incident response.
• Collaborate with product/design/data, tradeoffs, and iterative releases.
• Mentor engineers and review code and designs on the team.
