Job summary

Electronic Arts in Redwood City is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to shape backend architecture and scale live services for millions of players. You will collaborate with Research Scientists and Engineers to integrate novel technologies into our engine.

This hybrid role requires shipping robust APIs, ensuring security, and operating across live environments. You will own API specifications, drive deployment strategies, and maintain automated tests while supporting 24/7 operations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Experience shipping scalable web services in public clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Expertise with Python and PostgreSQL (Postgres).
• Experience owning large systems end-to-end, including live service support.
• Experience working with client engineers and designers to iteratively add features and improve APIs.
• Experience developing APIs for zero-downtime releases and tools.
• Experience with load testing and performance optimization of web services.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab).
• Experience with AI coding agents (e.g. Claude Code).

Responsibilities

• Partner with engine developers to integrate creator-focused systems into backend architecture.
• Develop responsive, massively scalable web services for millions of players.
• Blend security best practices with innovative techniques to protect data and prevent cheating.
• Apply and improve deployment and troubleshooting strategies to maximize uptime.
• Drive design and implementation of APIs and protocols that are consistent and testable.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving under iteratively changing requirements during game development.
• Author and review technical design documents and API specifications.
• Maintain a suite of automated tests validating backend services.
• Participate in 24-hour support of live environments and upkeep of live services.
