Job summary

Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Software (Database) Engineer to build the storage layer for a general purpose data platform. You will work on OLAP/OTLP capable systems, with cloud-native deployment across providers, and contribute to an AI-native data intelligence initiative.

The role offers a remote-first setup with substantial ownership and high autonomy. The team emphasizes rapid prototyping, pragmatic architecture, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines.
• Proficiency in Golang, C++, or Rust for production-grade software.
• Experience deploying software in cloud-native environments (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Familiarity with observability tooling to troubleshoot systems.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership over and build parts of the database, including ingestion, query planning, distributed execution, and data formats.
• Create a scalable SaaS foundation with multi-tenant architecture, usage tracking, quotas, and audit logs.
• Power agent-facing retrieval workflows and build APIs for AI agents and internal tools.
• Collaborate with product and infra to balance fast experimentation with long-term reliability.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces, and dashboards to improve reliability.
• Contribute to architectural direction, service boundaries, storage choices, and API contracts.
• Communicate effectively in a highly collaborative, fast-moving environment.
• Own the database solutions and ensure they are scalable and maintainable.
