Job summary

Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Software (Database) Engineer to help build the storage layer for a general purpose data platform. You will work on OLAP and OTLP capabilities, supporting analytics and real-time data across multi-cloud environments.

This remote role emphasizes autonomy, pragmatic architecture, and delivering production-grade SaaS solutions. You’ll collaborate across teams, iterate quickly, and grow with a high-autonomy team.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering skills with production-grade software experience.
• AI technologies and frameworks familiarity with practical mindset.
• Ability to release prototypes, gather feedback, and iterate quickly.
• Proven initiative and ownership to push projects forward in ambiguous environments.
• Collaborative communication across teams and stakeholders.
• Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, query engines.
• Mastery of Golang, C++, or Rust.
• Experience in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience using observability tools to understand and troubleshoot system behavior.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership over and build database components: ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, storage formats.
• Define and build multi-tenant SaaS architecture including isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs and reliable service boundaries.
• Develop APIs and interfaces for AI agents and tools to retrieve data efficiently.
• Collaborate with product and infra teams to balance rapid experimentation and long-term reliability.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts and dashboards for observability.
• Contribute to architectural direction, deployment patterns and engineering practices for the product area.
• Communicate effectively across a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
• Own the database solutions from design through production, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
