Job summary

GitLab seeks a Senior Backend Engineer for the Duo Chat team to build core AI capabilities powering GitLab Duo Chat. You’ll work on flow components, LangGraph-based orchestration, and integration with the Rails monolith to deliver secure, high-quality backend features.

You will integrate large language models, optimize performance, and collaborate with product and AI specialists to raise reliability and user value across the software development lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Significant experience building production Python backends with APIs and data models.
• Experience designing/shipping AI-powered backend features, LLM integration, and multi-agent orchestration.
• Proficiency with Ruby on Rails or willingness to learn; strong API design skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and build flow components and agentic flows in the Flow Registry using Python and LangGraph.
• Develop, ship, and maintain backend features across Python services and Rails monolith.
• Integrate AI models and multi-agent orchestration to improve capabilities and reliability.
