Job summary

Forsyth Barnes is seeking a Senior Software Engineer C++ to lead backend services handling high-volume telemetry and event streams for fleet platforms. This 12-month fixed-term role focuses on stabilising critical systems while enabling ongoing roadmap delivery.

You will own design and performance optimisations, mentor engineers, and ensure reliability through automated testing, CI/CD, and robust incident response. Strong communication with cross-functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience with modern C++ (C++11+), including templates, RAII, smart pointers and concurrency.
• Proven track record delivering production C++ systems with performance improvements.
• Familiarity with networking, serialization formats and telemetry event-driven architectures.
• Experience with profiling, benchmarking and diagnosing memory or concurrency issues at scale.
• Practical knowledge of SQL databases, ideally Microsoft SQL Server, and ability to design efficient queries.
• Exposure to C#/.NET for interoperability tasks.
• Strong mentoring and ability to guide mid-level and junior engineers.
• Excellent communication to present trade-offs and influence architectural direction.
• Commitment to CI/CD and automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement performant C++ services for telemetry ingestion, processing, and storage.
• Lead code reviews, define standards, and mentor engineers to elevate code quality.
• Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and deploy durable fixes.
• Optimise systems for concurrency, memory usage, and low-latency operation.
• Collaborate with product managers to translate requirements into designs.
• Create and maintain unit and integration test suites to safeguard stability.
• Contribute to capacity planning, performance benchmarks, and release gating.
• Document design decisions and support runbooks for on-call teams.
