Job summary

Evry Health is seeking an experienced backend-focused software engineer to design and implement scalable systems using Node.js 20 LTS, Next.js, and React technologies. The role emphasizes API design, database optimization, and robust backend services with strong CI/CD practices.

You will lead technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams including .NET, product managers, and security experts.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Backend focus with Node and React technologies, primarily in backend development.
• Strong backend expertise in Node.js 20 LTS, Express.js, Fastify, NestJS, or similar frameworks.
• Database proficiency with advanced SQL and ORM usage (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
• APIs: RESTful design, documentation via OpenAPI/Swagger; GraphQL or tRPC a plus.
• Experience with .NET core, Azure, and C# is desirable.
• Proficiency in Node 20 LTS, Next 15+, React 19+, React Native 0.80+, Expo SDK 54+.
• Azure cloud services exposure (App Service, Functions, SQL DB, Blob Storage).
• DevOps and containerization: Docker, CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
• Testing: Jest, Mocha; strong emphasis on test-driven development.
• Version control: Git workflows, PR reviews, branching strategies.
• Knowledge of microservices, distributed systems and security (JWT/OAuth).
• Monitoring with Sentry and Application Insights; Redis caching; BullMQ job queues.
• Healthcare software experience is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Lead system architecture and design for scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Develop backend services and RESTful APIs with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Design and optimize SQL schemas; implement ORMs and data access layers.
• Create well-documented APIs using OpenAPI/Swagger for frontend/mobile use.
• Provide technical leadership, code reviews, and mentorship to engineers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including .NET and product managers.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation for systems and codebases.
• Implement security best practices and regulatory compliance for backend systems.
• Troubleshoot complex issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operation.
• Deploy and manage applications on Azure, implement CI/CD pipelines, and use Docker.
