Job summary

BLN24 is seeking a Senior Back End Web Developer to join our team in McLean, VA, supporting CFPB's RegTech program. You will design, build, and optimize backend services using Scala and Akka, CQRS, and event-driven architecture.

You will develop containerized microservices for Docker and Kubernetes, implement robust data access with PostgreSQL and Cassandra/AWS Keyspaces, and write comprehensive unit and integration tests.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional back-end development experience.
• Experience with Scala and Akka Toolkit, reactive programming, and actor-based concurrency.
• Experience with CQRS and event-driven architecture.
• Experience writing and optimizing database queries in SQL and NoSQL stores (PostgreSQL, Cassandra / AWS Keyspaces).
• Expertise using Slick or another ORM library.
• Experience building APIs with complex JSON payloads.
• Experience creating unit and integration tests for end-to-end APIs.
• Experience containerizing microservices and deploying on Kubernetes with Docker.
• Experience using GitHub for source control and planning.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; Master's preferred.

Position Overview

BLN24 is seeking a Senior Back End Web Developer to support CFPB's RegTech BPA program by designing, building, and optimizing the back-end services behind public-facing regulatory applications. This role requires deep experience with Scala and the Akka Toolkit, CQRS and event-driven architecture, and high-performance API and database development within containerized microservices orchestrated by Kubernetes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain back-end services using Scala and the Akka Toolkit, applying functional programming, reactive programming, and actor-based concurrency
• Build and evolve components of a CQRS, event-driven architecture
• Develop and optimize database queries across relational and non-relational stores, including PostgreSQL and Cassandra / AWS Keyspaces
• Implement data access layers using Slick or comparable ORM libraries
• Build and optimize APIs that handle complex JSON payloads
• Write unit and integration tests that validate end-to-end API responses
• Develop containerized microservices for Docker and deploy them on Kubernetes
• Manage source code, reviews, and planning in GitHub, collaborating with architects, front-end developers, and product owners in an Agile team

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional back-end development experience
• Experience in functional programming using Scala, including the Akka Toolkit, the reactive programming model, and actor-based concurrency
• Experience working on a CQRS, event-driven architecture
• Demonstrated experience developing and optimizing database queries in relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) structures, such as PostgreSQL and Cassandra / AWS Keyspaces
• Expertise using Slick or another Object Relational Mapping (ORM) library
• Expertise building and optimizing APIs with complex JSON payloads
• Experience creating unit tests and integration tests that validate end-to-end API responses
• Experience developing containerized microservices, with specific skills developing for Docker containers using Kubernetes orchestration
• Experience working with GitHub for source code management and planning
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; Master's degree preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using asynchronous Python methodologies or similar
• Experience with a front-end framework such as VueJS, especially ReactJS
• Demonstrated experience working on open-source projects, including delivering public-facing solutions
• Prior engagement at CFPB or other federal financial regulators (e.g., FDIC, OCC, SEC, FRB, NCUA)
• Experience delivering solutions in a federal FISMA Moderate or comparable security-compliance environment
