Senior Java Back-end Developer
9+ month contract (W2 ONLY, NO C-C)
Hybrid – Manhattan, NY

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Backend/Data Engineer for a hybrid position based in New York.
This role will support a high-performing development team by delivering robust backend solutions, with a focus on data pipelining, cloud-native architecture, and stakeholder collaboration.
Key Details:

• This is a HYBRID role based in New York
• Final interview will be conducted onsite
• Primarily seeking a Backend Java Engineer with strong Java expertise
• Scala/SCIO experience is highly desired
• Using BigQuery and SQL for data pipelining
• Python proficiency is a major plus
• Must be senior-level, able to design architecture and think through technical implementations
• Ideal candidates will have worked in similar environments with experience in business services, building high-performance applications, and interfacing with end-users and key stakeholders
• GCP preferred, but candidates with experience in AWS or Azure are welcome

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and data pipelines in a Java-based environment
• Leverage cloud-native tools and architecture (preferably GCP) to deliver scalable and efficient systems
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data and messaging needs, designing solutions that deliver value to users
• Work with distributed systems and apply sound engineering principles to ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability
• Coach and mentor peers by sharing technical expertise and leadership skills

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in Java/Scala backend development
• Experience with cloud-native application development (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure acceptable)
• Proficiency in data pipelining using BigQuery, SQL, and optionally Python
• Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and concurrency
• Ability to work within Linux environments and use monitoring/metrics for continuous improvement
• Familiarity with agile development practices, continuous delivery, and test-driven development
• Experience coaching or mentoring developers and contributing to team growth
  
  

Estimated Min Rate: $56.00
Estimated Max Rate: $80.00
