Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to hold accept/reject authority on structural steel, pipe, and welded assemblies, inspecting to AWS D1.1, D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104 as needed. You will witness welder qualification tests and review WPS/PQR documents.

You will direct NDT, sign inspection reports relied on by the engineer of record and building official. The role moves between fabrication shop and erection site in Billings, MT, with pay ranges $38–$52/hour

Qualifications

• Current AWS CWI with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Must command AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting certification preferred (sponsored if not held).

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder performance qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing (NDT).
• Disposition indications and write repair instructions.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection; base plates and high-strength bolting where certified.
• Write inspection and nonconformance reports for engineer of record and building official.
