Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector II to perform and sign visual weld inspections on structural steel, pipe, and fabricated assemblies, with authority to accept or reject per AWS D1.x, ASME IX, or API 1104 as required.

The role includes reviewing WPS/PQR, witnessing welder qualification tests, directing NDT, writing inspection and nonconformance reports, and coordinating with engineers and the building official.

Qualifications

• Current AWS CWI with at least 2 years of inspection experience.
• Proficiency in AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting certification (preferred).
• Ability to defend a rejection and document for retest closure.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder qualification tests and direct NDT.
• Write inspection and nonconformance reports for the engineer and building official.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection; sign IBC 17 records.
